You will need Java to play Minecraft. If you don't have it, go get it.

If the files show up as a compressed archive (Zip/Rar) to you, or you cannot open the file by double clicking on it, first ensure you have Java installed. If you have Java installed then try using Jarfix to fix the file association.

Mineshafter Launcher

Login with whatever username or password you want. Servers should ask you to login again once you connect. Please note that you cannot connect to official servers using this. Only open servers, or those using authentication plugins will work.

If you get a corrupted jar error, try getting it from one of these mirrors instead:

Getting Started

1. Login
2. Set a username on the Settings page
3. Set a skin and/or cloak if you want one
4. Download the launcher
5. Start the launcher
6. Login with any username you want. Password doesn't matter. Username must match the one you picked on the site for skins to work.

Having trouble?

• Q: When I change my skin, it stays the same in-game.
• A: To reduce load on the server, the client caches skins. Restart Minecraft to ensure you are seeing the latest skins for yourself and your friends.

• Q: Nothing happens when I start the launcher
• A: Sometimes windows doesn't correctly bind JAR files to be executed by Java. Try using Jarfix to re-associate the filetype.

• Q: I can't login to my friend's server/I get Connection Timeout errors.
• A: This is usually either a firewall or NAT problem. Whoever is running the server needs to ensure that they have TCP port 25565 (or whatever port they are using) open to the internet. Guide.

• Q: I keep getting "Failed to verify username" when connecting to multiplayer servers.
• A: You can only use servers that use custom authentication plugins or are in offline mode. Official servers will not let you connect.

• Q: When I connect to a server I see "/register <password> <password>" or a message telling me to login.
• A: Pick a password to use on that server, and type /register yourpassword yourpasswordagain.
